Reading v2.0: What happens when eReaders and psycholinguistics collide?
In this talk we will discuss how reading with digital devices, as opposed to traditional books, may be changing the linguistic, cognitive and emotional experience of reading.
Writings in the popular media about the digitization of reading can be polarized in their views regarding perceived impacts on readers’ attention, comprehension and information assimilation. In this session, we will explore a more nuanced and research-based picture of reading on screens. From altering the quality of language in parent-child book conversations, to enabling struggling readers, the impact of the digitization of reading is profound, often surprising, and for researchers, an elusively moving target.
